A great way to organize your sticky notes is to add tags to them. Each tag is customizable with an icon, text, and color. You can apply up to 20 tags to a sticky note and up to 200 tags per mural. And, tags are exportable via CSV.

Note: When you export sticky notes as a CSV file, you'll find the tags in the far-right column.

Every time you create a tag, it automatically saves to your mural. So, the next time you create a sticky note, you can add any of that mural’s existing tags to the sticky note. Easily locate your tagged sticky notes by clicking the Find icon and using the Find panel.

Add tags to a sticky note

Adding tags to sticky notes is simple. You can even add icons and choose specific colors for your tags. When you create new sticky notes in a mural, you can add any of the current mural’s existing tags to the new sticky note. Remember: tags aren’t shared across murals, so any tagging you do is specific to that individual mural.

Note: Collaborators can’t add tags during private mode. Only collaborators with edit access in the mural can add tags.

To add tags to your sticky notes:

  1. Click on a sticky note (or hold Shift + click + drag to highlight multiple sticky notes). To select specific sticky notes, hold Command or Control and click the sticky notes you want.

  2. Click the Add a tag icon.

  3. (Optional) Click the icon on the left to select an icon for your tag.

  4. Type a name for your tag in the Enter a tag field. Tag text is currently limited to 25 characters.

  5. (Optional) Click the color box to select a color for your tag.

  6. Click the + (plus) sign to add the tag. (Or, press Enter or Return on your keyboard.)

Note: You’ll lose existing tags from the sticky note if you switch from text to sketch.

Edit sticky note tags

If you edit an existing tag, all other sticky notes in the current mural with that tag will reflect those changes. To edit a tag, you’ll follow similar steps to how you added a tag.

To edit a sticky note tag:

  1. Click on a sticky note that has the tag you want to update.

  2. Click the Tags icon.

  3. Click the three-dot menu icon to the right of the tag you want to change.

  4. Select Edit.

  5. Make your changes to the tag’s icon, text, and color.

  6. Click Save.

Remove or delete sticky note tags

You can easily remove a tag from a sticky note or a group of sticky notes. Or, if you no longer want a tag in your mural, you can delete the tag entirely.

To remove a tag from a sticky note:

  1. Select the sticky note.

  2. Click the Tags icon.

  3. Hover over the tag name you want to remove and click on the - (minus) button.

This tag remains as an option for other sticky notes in the current mural.

To entirely delete a tag from a mural:

  1. Select the sticky note that has the tag you want to delete.

  2. Click the Tags icon.

  3. Click the three-dot menu icon to the right of the tag you want to delete.

  4. Select Delete.

  5. Click the Delete button on the confirmation modal.

If you want to use a tag you already deleted, you must follow the steps to create the tag again.
