MURAL’s tables let you add, merge, and remove columns and rows, as well as format the table design. Plus, you can add content like sticky notes, links, images, and more.

Note: Tables are currently in public beta and are subject to testing and defects. MURAL provides tables warranty-free, on an as-is and as-available basis. MURAL isn’t liable for any losses that may result from public beta.

Select a table

When you click inside of a table, the cell you clicked on gets highlighted. If you double-click directly on a table’s cell, MURAL opens that cell for you to add text. So, what if you want to select the entire table? Easy.

To select the entire table, click the table's border. You can click the outer border, or any of the border lines within the table.

Here's a GIF showing how to select a table:

From there, you can easily move your table or use the toolbar to make changes to it.

Move a table

Now that you know how to select a table, how do you move the table to another part of the canvas? You'll use the toolbar's Move function.

To move the entire table:

  1. Click the table’s border to select the table.

  2. Hold the Move icon in the toolbar while dragging the table to its new location.

Select an entire row or column

Before you change a row or column's color or formatting, you must first select the row or column you want. You can do this by clicking a row's handle or the column's handle to select that row or column.

Pro tip: You can use the skills you’ve just learned to create a header row! Resize the header row, change the row’s color, and even bold the text!

Resize rows and columns

Resizing rows and columns is the same intuitive user experience you’re likely accustomed to with digital tables. You can easily resize:

  • The entire table.

  • All rows.

  • All columns.

  • A single row.

  • A single column.

To resize the entire table:

  1. Click the border of the table to select the entire table.

  2. Click and drag any of the four corners of the table.

    1. Drag in to make the table smaller.

    2. Drag out to make the table bigger.

To resize all rows evenly:

  1. Click the border of the table to select the entire table.

  2. Click and drag the top or bottom border of the table.

    1. Drag away from the table (up from the top border, down from the bottom border) to make the rows taller.

    2. Drag inward toward the table (down from the top border, up from the bottom border) to make the rows shorter.

To resize one column or row: Simply click and drag the row or column line until it’s the size you want!

Add content to your table

Table cells can contain both text and visual content.

To add text to your table: Just click or double-click on a cell and start typing! To edit existing table text, double-click in the cell again to select and change your text.

There are a few ways to add sticky notes to your table:

  • Click a cell and click the Add sticky note icon from the format menu.

  • Right-click a cell and select Add sticky note from the context menu.

  • Drag and drop a sticky note from the left sidebar menu into the table.

  • Use the shortcut Option + double-click (Mac) or Alt + double-click (Windows).

Visual content like connectors, images, shapes, icons, and more can be dragged and dropped into the table as well to help bring your table to life!

Merge and unmerge cells with content

When two adjacent cells are selected, they can be merged together.

Note: If you’re merging two cells that both have text, only the text in the left-most cell of the table will be kept after the merge.

To merge table cells:

  1. Hold Shift and select the cells you want to merge.

  2. Click the Merge Cells icon in the toolbar.

To unmerge table cells:

  1. Select the cell you want to unmerge.

  2. Click the Unmerge Cells icon in the toolbar.
