FAQ for MURAL members

How do I set up 2FA in MURAL?
If your company admin has enabled two-factor authentication (2FA, sometimes called MFA), MURAL will prompt you to set up 2FA when you first log in. If you’re not a company member, visit the following article on setting up 2FA as an individual member.

What happens if I lose my 2FA device or remove the authentication app?
You can use one of your recovery codes to sign in. Recovery codes are provided when you set up 2FA. Keep in mind that you can only use each code once.

I forgot to save my recovery codes when I signed up for 2FA. Where can I find the codes again?

You can also find the recovery codes on your profile page:

  1. Once logged into MURAL, click your avatar.

  2. Click Profile.

  3. Click View recovery codes under the Security section of your profile.

  4. Enter your password to verify your identity and click Next.

  5. Copy or download your recovery codes.

What happens if I don’t have access to my recovery codes?
Contact MURAL Support. They can manually disable 2FA for your account.


FAQ for company admins

When I require 2FA for my company members, how will they know they need to set up 2FA?
On their next login, members will see a Set Up 2FA modal that prompts them to enroll in 2FA.It's a good idea to inform your employees before requiring 2FA. Contact MURAL’s Support team or your Success Architect for a copy of our recommended change management messaging, which you can use to ensure your 2FA rollout goes smoothly.

What authenticator apps are supported for MURAL 2FA?


How can I see which members have not enabled 2FA?
Admins can contact MURAL’s Support team or their Success Architect to get a list of members who still need to turn on 2FA.

Will members in my organization who log in via SAML SSO also need to set up 2FA?
Nope! Members (and guests) in a domain who use SAML SSO to log in don’t need to set up 2FA.

What happens if members lose their 2FA device or remove the authentication app?
Members can use one of their recovery codes to sign in. Recovery codes are provided when a member sets up 2FA. They can only use each code once.

What happens if members don’t have access to their backup codes?
The member should contact MURAL Support who will manually disable 2FA for their account. Support will validate the member’s identity, send them an email for confirmation, and then disable their 2FA.

On which MURAL platforms can I make 2FA required for my company members?
2FA will only be required on MURAL’s web application. 2FA won’t be required in MURAL’s desktop or mobile app.

What is the experience for members outside my company domain when 2FA is only required for guests?

When a member's domain doesn’t match your company domain, the member must set up 2FA to access your company’s content. The only exception is if the member belongs to a primary Business or Enterprise account where SAML SSO is in use.

What is the experience for members outside my company domain when 2FA is only required for members?

If your company is only requiring member 2FA, members external to your company’s domain will not be required to set up 2FA. Optionally, they can choose to set up 2FA for their account by following the instructions in this article.

Can 2FA be required for visitors?

2FA cannot be required for visitors, because they don’t have an identity in MURAL. If you don’t want visitors to access your content in MURAL, you can disable visitors.
