With the Mural App for Zoom, you can now share a digital canvas inside of a Zoom meeting so that all participants can collaborate visually in real-time with sticky notes, drawings, diagrams, images, and more from inside of the Zoom client. Leverage Mural’s Facilitation Superpowers® and pre-made meeting templates to get more out of your video meetings.

The Mural App for Zoom is free and available in the Zoom App Marketplace. Only the Zoom meeting host needs to be a Mural member—everyone else can join as a visitor, which doesn’t require a Mural account.

Note: For a technical overview for admins, please check out the Mural App for Zoom admin guide.

What's new?

As of May 2022, the Mural App for Zoom has these great improvements:

  • More screen real estate and a single app window. Users can experience a larger mural and view participants of the meeting in the same Zoom window.

  • Smoother joining experience. Only the person facilitating the Zoom session and sharing the mural needs the Mural App for Zoom installed. If the Zoom facilitator shares the mural in Collaborate mode, other participants can view the mural without needing to install the app. (To join the mural, a participant needs the Zoom app installed.)

  • Start the app without using Zoom chat. Sharing a mural is now done through a simple button, “Collaborate,” which triggers the Mural App to start.

  • Easily record murals within meetings with a single click. In Collaborate mode, simply click Record. The meeting and mural will automatically record and be viewable in the Cloud or downloaded recording.

Requirements

  • Zoom desktop client (v5.10.3 or later).

  • Download the Mural App for Zoom from the Zoom App Marketplace.

    • If using Collaborate mode, only the Zoom facilitator needs the Mural App for Zoom installed. All other participants can view the shared mural without needing to install the app. To join and collaborate on the mural, though, participants must also install the app.

    • Otherwise, if using the regular mode, all participants must have the Mural App for Zoom installed in their Zoom client to use this integration. If participants don't have the app installed, Zoom can install it for them.

Note: For Zoom's Enterprise and Business plans, Zoom Apps must be enabled in your Zoom account by your Zoom administrator.

  • Only one person in the meeting needs a Mural account. All other attendees can join as visitors (unless visitors are disabled by the Mural company administrator).

  • Users must be logged into the Zoom client.

  • For Enterprise customers, the Zoom integration must be enabled by the Mural company administrator (Enterprise companies only; all other plans are enabled by default). For customers using SSO (single sign-on), please contact Mural Support.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

  • Who can share a mural during a meeting?

Any Mural member can share a mural with the rest of the participants. Only the Zoom meeting host or co-host can share using Collaborate mode.

  • Will murals be recorded when I record a Zoom meeting?

Yes, you can record murals while recording your Zoom meeting. Simply record the meeting, and the mural content will also be recorded.

  • If I'm a Zoom meeting host and can't see the Collaborate option, what should I do?

Collaborate mode might not be available due to account restrictions. Contact Zoom’s technical support team to clarify what restrictions apply.

  • If the Mural App isn’t working, what should I do?

First, try refreshing the mural. Click the Refresh button in the top right of the mural.

You can also try closing the app and reopening it. As a last resort, exit the Zoom meeting and re-enter.

  • What if meeting participants can’t access the mural I shared? What if the meeting host isn't present?

In these situations, participants can simply follow these steps: How to share a mural as a Zoom participant.

  • How does the Mural App for Zoom work with Zoom breakout rooms?

For breakout rooms, each room (and the parent meeting/room) can have their own mural shared. If a mural was shared in the parent meeting before breakout rooms were created, each breakout room will load the mural that was already shared. Once in the breakout room, anyone can then share a new mural. When returning to the parent meeting/room, the originally-shared mural will be reloaded.

  • Can collaborators join a mural shared in the Mural App for Zoom and from other Mural apps at the same time?

Yes! Collaborators can access a mural from the Mural web app, iOS app, Android app, Microsoft app, or anywhere else you can access murals. They'll appear as a collaborator in the mural.

Joining from other Mural apps is perfect if you want people in a meeting room to collaborate on the mural from their mobile devices or on the go.

  • How do I access Facilitation Superpowers®? Where are the features usually found in the top bar of Mural?

In the Mural App for Zoom, the mural's top bar is hidden until you hover over it. Once shown, you can access voting, timer, outline, comments, and other features. Avatars appear when there are multiple collaborators in a mural. Click on your avatar to access features like summon or take control.

  • What impact does this have on QEM (quarterly engaged member) measures?

Interactions in the Mural App for Zoom count the same as they do on the web. You must be signed in to your Mural account. If you access a mural as a visitor, interactions do not count towards QEM measures.

  • What data does the integration share between the apps?

Mural obtains MeetingId, UserIds, ParticipantIds, and Mural OAuth Tokens from Zoom for the purposes of the Mural App integration. The Mural App stores only the Zoom user's ID along with the OAuth access and refresh tokens associated with that ID. This is so Mural doesn't have to ask the Zoom user to log in every time they want to use the app. This data is deleted when the user uninstalls the app from Zoom. Other data elements are stored temporarily and deleted once the meeting ends.

  • How do I adjust access to murals?

Although sharing a mural is done through the Mural App for Zoom, access and permissions settings are configured through the Mural web app.

When a mural is shared through the Mural App, participants can choose whether they sign in to the workspace or enter as a visitor (if that option is enabled).

If you do not wish for participants to sign in as members or create an account, enable the visitor link for your mural. This will prompt participants to choose the "Sign in as visitor" option.
