Meaningful captions provide audiences with the context and intentions behind an image. Plus, to increase accessibility, non-text content should always include a text alternative.

Check out our article on making Mural images accessible.

To add a caption to your image:

  1. Right-click the image to open the context menu.

  2. Select Edit Caption.

  3. Type a caption in the Add a caption text box.

  4. (Optional) Type a description in the Add a description text box.

  5. Press Enter or click outside the image to save the caption or description.

To hide or show a caption:

  1. Click to select an image in your mural.

  2. Click the Hide caption or Show caption icon in the formatting menu.

Note: If you hide a caption, screen readers will still pick up on and read the caption to visually impaired users. So, adding and hiding a caption is a great way to add alternative text for accessibility purposes!
