  • Stay informed with the MURAL bot and receive notifications when someone comments, mentions, or invites you to a mural.

  • Share a mural during a live video meeting in Teams to increase inclusivity, engagement, and creativity with your team.

  • In the personal app, access and work on any mural just as you would in the web app, right within Teams.

  • Pin a mural to any meeting invite to share information ahead of time or easily find the right mural for a recurring meeting.

The MURAL App for Teams is available for all plans.

Installing the MURAL App for Teams

Prior to installing, your Microsoft Teams administrator must have already enabled the MURAL App for Teams in the Microsoft Teams app store. For more information, check out our article MURAL App for Teams admin guide.

For customers on an Enterprise plan, your MURAL administrator must enable the integration in the Company dashboard.

1. Open Microsoft Teams, and go into the Store by clicking on Apps in the bottom left corner. Search for 'MURAL' (or scroll through the store to find it).

2. After selecting MURAL, click on “Add.”

3. Click on “Get Started.”

4. Sign in with your MURAL credentials.

5. Allow the MURAL App for Teams to access your MURAL account so we can bring all necessary information from MURAL into Teams.

Adding a mural to channel or chat

Add a mural as a tab to any channel or chat in Teams where you can collaborate visually, centralize information, and easily revisit any murals. The murals will conveniently appear alongside your team’s conversations and files. You’ll be able to add existing murals as well as create new ones.

1. In any channel or chat, click on the ‘+’ button in the top toolbar.

2. Select the MURAL app from the menu.

3. Create a new mural or search for an existing mural.

*If you select the checkbox to “post to the channel about this tab” the channel or chat will be alerted that there is a new mural available as a tab.

Once you select a mural or create a new one, the mural will appear as a tab in the top bar. From here, anyone who has access to the channel or chat and the MURAL App for Teams will be able to access the mural based on the share permissions set in that mural.

Based on those permissions, you will have access to the same functionality as you would in the MURAL web app.

To remove or rename the tab, simply click on the dropdown next to the name of the tab. Please note, renaming the tab doesn’t change the name of the mural.

Notifications

You can elect to receive messages with as many (or as few) of the following notifications as you'd like:

  • Download links to mural exports

  • Comments on your murals

  • Comments when somebody @mentions you

  • Notifications when someone enters your mural for the first time

  • Notifications when someone who is not a member of your workspace accepts your invitation to a room or workspace

  • Notifications when someone create a mural in a room you’ve starred

Here’s how to set it up:

  1. Use the checkboxes to select which notifications you want to receive

  2. Done!

Now it’s even easier to stay up-to-date on activity happening in your murals.

Here’s how to set it up:

1. Open up the content button in any new conversation or reply.

2. Click on the MURAL icon or the ‘...’ and then select MURAL from the content menu.

3. Browse MURAL templates, or search by keyword.

4. Share the desired MURAL template with your team.

Using the personal app

In the personal app, you can access and work on any mural just as you would in the web app, right within Teams. It’s perfect for working on a mural that you don’t want to add to a channel, chat, or calendar invite. You have access to all of MURAL’s visual thinking capabilities and Facilitation Superpower from here.

To access the personal app, simply click on the MURAL “M” logo in the sidebar. Then you can search for a mural or start a new one.

Adding a mural to a live video meeting

Add a mural to a live video meeting in Teams to increase inclusivity, engagement, and creativity with your team. Make live meetings more meaningful by leveling the playing field and empowering everyone to participate and contribute. Collaborate in a mural in real-time during a live video meeting using the 'share’ icon in the pop-up modal to share-to-stage.

To add MURAL to a meeting invite, do the following:

  1. Create a meeting invitation to schedule a meeting, and add at least one person.

  2. Once you send the invitation, go back to the invitation and edit it.

  3. Click the + (plus) button to add MURAL as an app.

Note: Apps are not supported in Live Events.

To use the MURAL app, the meeting must have participants or a pinned mural. If visitor links are disabled, members must authenticate to access the mural.

Pinning a mural to a calendar invite

Pin a mural to any meeting invite to share information ahead of time or easily find the right mural for a recurring meeting.

You must save your meeting first before the + (plus) button appears.

FAQs

How do share permissions for murals work in Teams?

Sharing the mural is easy and secure inside of Microsoft Teams. The MURAL App for Microsoft Teams follows the same sharing permissions as in the web app, but you’ll notice there isn’t a share button on the top bar. To change permissions, you’ll need to go to the web app.

If visitor links are enabled for a mural, anyone who can access the Microsoft Teams channel, chat, or calendar invite can access the mural as a visitor without needing to sign in. If visitor links are disabled, anyone in the space who wants to access the mural must sign in and have permission to access it.

How do I navigate in a mural in Teams?

Navigation within the MURAL App for Microsoft Teams is the same as the web app except that the mini-map in the bottom right corner is collapsed. Click on it to expand it and navigate around the mural.

Where are the avatars?

You will only see avatars when there is more than one person working in the mural. You can only see two participant’s avatars at a time; you can scroll to see the others.

Can I use Facilitation Superpowers in the MURAL App for Microsoft Teams?

Yes! These features are located in the top bar or by clicking on the avatars (only appear when more than one collaborator is in the mural). You also need to be a facilitator in the mural.

You will find many facilitation superpowers and features such as commenting and find on the top bar.

Can I remove a mural from a meeting invite?

No. Instead, create a new meeting invitation without a mural.

Can I add a mural to a Live Event?

No. Apps are not supported in Live Events.
