Add images to a mural

Adding images to your mural couldn't be easier. You can add an image from MURAL’s integrated platforms or even import files from your computer, Google Drive, or Dropbox.

Adding images with keywords

Adding an image from keywords directly grabs images from our in-app Bing search. And it’s pretty easy!

To add an image by searching with keywords:

  1. Click the Images button on the sidebar.

  2. Enter some keywords in the search box to find a specific image.

  3. Click on your chosen image from the search results and it will appear directly on the canvas. Or, drag and drop the image to your desired location.

  4. Resize the image, add a border to it if you like, and position it as needed.

Add an image from your computer

If you need to add a custom image from your computer, You can upload custom images to the canvas directly from your computer by dragging and dropping or through the instructions below.

To add an image from your computer:

  1. Click the Images button on the sidebar.

  2. Click import images.

  3. Select From your computer.

  4. Locate the image on your computer that you want to import, and click Open.

  5. Resize the image, add a border to it if you like, and position it as needed.

Add images from Google Drive

MURAL offers a nifty Google Drive integration. Once enabled, you can drop in files and images from Google Drive on the fly.

To add images from Google Drive:

  1. Click the Images button on the sidebar.

  2. Click import images.

  3. Select From Google Drive. You may need to log in to your Google account.

  4. Locate the image that you want to import.

  5. Click Select. The image will be uploaded to the canvas.

  6. Resize the image, add a border to it if you like, and position it as needed.

Add images from Dropbox

Just like our Google Drive integration, You can also add images directly from your linked Dropbox account.

To add images from Dropbox:

  1. Click the Images button on the sidebar.

  2. Click import images.

  3. Select From Dropbox.

  4. Sign in to your Dropbox account or sign in with Google or Apple.

  5. Locate the image that you want to import.

  6. Click Choose. The image will be uploaded to the canvas.

  7. Resize the image, add a border to it if you like, and position it as needed.

Add images from Adobe Creative Cloud

Our Adobe Creative Cloud integration allows you to directly access the images from your Creative Cloud library and import them into MURAL.

To add images from the Creative Cloud Library:

  1. Click the Images button on the sidebar.

  2. Select Creative Cloud.

  3. Click Connect with Adobe.

  4. Sign in to your Adobe account or continue signing in with Google, Facebook, or Apple.

Add images from GIPHY

Our GIPHY integration gives you access to the best and newest GIFs and animated stickers online. Find everything from funny GIFs, reaction GIFs, unique GIFs, and more.

To add images from GIPHY:

  1. Click the Images button on the sidebar.

  2. Select Giphy.

  3. Enter the keyword in the search bar to find a specific GIF image.

  4. Click your chosen GIF image from the search results and it will appear directly on the canvas. Or drag and drop to your desired location.

  5. Resize the image, add a border to it if you like, and position it as needed.

Add images from Unsplash

Our Unsplash integration provides beautiful, free images and photos that you can use for any project from a stock library.

To add images from Unsplash:

  1. Click the Images button at the left sidebar of your mural.

  2. Select Unsplash.

  3. Enter the keyword in the search bar to find a specific stock image.

  4. Click your chosen stock image from the search results and it will appear directly on the canvas. Or drag and drop to your desired location.

  5. Resize the image, add a border to the image, and position it as needed.


Image toolbar

Click on an image or multiple images to display the image toolbar.

Use the connector toolbar to:

  • Move image

  • Lock/unlock image

  • Zoom to image

  • Add border

  • Link image

  • Edit thumbnail

  • Hide/show caption

  • Crop image


Image contextual menu

When you right-click on an image (or Control + click with a touchpad), a context menu is displayed.

With this menu, you can do the following for the image:

  • Show who added or edited this image

  • Get a link

  • Show dot grid

  • Snap to grid

  • Bring to front

  • Send to back

  • Duplicate

  • Lock or unlock

  • Add to outline

  • Save to content library

  • Edit caption

  • Save image to Dropbox

  • Download image

  • Delete


Crop an image

Cropping enables you to trim the aspect ratio of an image or improve the overall image composition.

To crop an image in a mural:

  1. Select the image in your mural.

  2. Click the Crop tool.

  3. Trim the image by dragging the sides and/or corners or by moving the window around on the image once you’ve found the desired crop size.

  4. Press Enter to crop the image.

Tip: Keep a consistent aspect ratio when adjusting the crop window by holding down Shift.


Add, edit or hide captions

Meaningful captions provide audiences with the context and intentions behind an image.

When paired with engaging images, captions can spark the viewer’s interest and help them remember the image longer.

To add a caption:

  1. Select an image in your mural.

  2. Right-click on the image and select Edit Caption.

  3. Enter a caption in the Add a caption… text box.

  4. (Optional) Enter a description in the Add a description… text box.

  5. Press Enter or click outside the image to save the caption or description.

To edit, hide or show a caption:

  1. Select an image in your mural.

  2. Click Hide caption or Show caption.

  3. Hover over the caption or description and click the Edit description icon to toggle the description as needed.


Add a link to images

Hyperlinks can transform visual content from passive to interactive presentations. Let your audiences feel a more dynamic and interactive experience by adding hyperlinks to your images.

To add a link to an image:

  1. Add an image to your mural.

  2. Click the image and select the Edit link option.

  3. Enter the URL of a photo, article, or website that you want your image to link to. Make sure that the link is working.

  4. Press Enter and click outside of the image.

To follow a link:

  1. Do one of the following:

    • Simply double-click on the image. The external content will pop up in a new tab.

    • Click the Open button in the bottom-right of the image.

To remove a link from an image:

  1. Click the image in your mural.

  2. Select the Edit link option.

  3. Delete the link.

  4. Press Enter and click outside of the image.
