Frameworks are a collection of pre-formatted grids and diagrams you can use to structure a mural. For example, maybe you want to add a calendar to a mural. You shouldn’t have to spend your valuable collaboration time building one of your own, so we have a framework for that! There are several framework categories—including business, agile, and more—so you can get to the heart of your collaboration faster.

What are frameworks?
Frameworks pre-made tools to help you organize your thoughts and collaboration in a mural. Think of these like sticky pads you’re adding to a mural. All content you add to a framework is held in place by that framework. So, if you add a calendar framework and then add notes to that calendar, you can move everything in it as one rather than having to move every piece individually.
There are five framework categories:
Layouts: Basic frameworks to help you design your own activities.
Design: Design tools to help with ideating and user mapping.
Agile: Retrospectives and grids for agile ceremonies.
Business: Diagrams meant to assist in common business processes and planning.
Calendars: Weekly and monthly calendars to help plan things over time.
Frameworks are similar to templates, but the difference is that you can add frameworks to an existing mural, and you can add as many frameworks as you want. And, if you really like your configuration of frameworks in a mural, you could turn that mural into a template and use it over and over again.
Add a framework
You can add a framework to an existing mural to help guide a part of your collaboration.
To add a framework:
In your mural, click the frameworks icon in the left-hand toolbar.
Search or use the category tabs to find a framework that fits your needs.
Drag your chosen framework onto your mural.
To add a framework on a mobile device:
Tap the + icon in the left-hand toolbar. If you’re on a tablet, skip to step 2.
Tap the frameworks icon.
Search or use the category tabs to find a framework that fits your needs.
Note: The above screenshot shows the MURAL app on a mobile phone. It may look slightly different when using a tablet.
Tap your chosen framework to add it to your mural.
Drag the framework to position it on your mural.
Now you can place text, stickies, and other objects on your mural in a nice and organized way. You can change the font size, add a border, and more using the framework’s toolbar. You’ll also see that frameworks show on your mural’s outline so you can easily navigate back to them.
Tip: Lock frameworks to the background before inviting collaborators so no one moves them accidentally. To lock a framework, right-click (or Command+click on a Mac) on the framework and choose Lock from the drop-down menu. To lock frameworks on a mobile device, select the framework and tap the three-dot menu. Then, tap Lock on the options menu. |
Move a framework
Moving a framework is easy. All you have to do is click (or tap if using a mobile device) near an edge of the framework. Then, drag the framework to the new location. You can also move frameworks on the desktop version of MURAL using the framework’s toolbar.
Delete a framework
When you delete a framework, you have the option of deleting just the framework or deleting the framework and all of its contents.
To delete a framework:
Right-click (or Option+click on a Mac) on a part of the framework not occupied by another object.
Click Delete.
Click either Area only to delete just the framework OR Area and content to delete the framework and everything it holds.
To delete a framework on a mobile device:
Tap a part of the framework not occupied by another object.
Tap the three-dot menu.
Tap Delete.
Tap either Area only to delete just the framework OR Area and content to delete the framework and everything it holds.
Now, your framework is gone from the mural. If you choose to delete just the framework (area), all objects previously held in that framework are now directly on your mural.
